Bishop’s BBQ Bash RESCHEDULED

In consultation with the Bishop, due to impending weather, the Columbia District Bishop’s BBQ Bash January 23 has been rescheduled to March 19.  Please notify your church leaders who were planning to attend.  Information will come out in February regarding details on location and registration (we may be able to keep the same registration list and use the same church host).   Please be safe and stay warm in the winter weather.

SHIFT Conference

We post-modern Christ-followers realize that something has changed. Our experience tells us so. Our intuition and feelings tell us so. The purpose of SHIFT is to help our understanding catch up with our experience. We need input, insights, information, and examples to make sense of the changes around us. SHIFT provides this kind of learning for clergy, church staff, and lay persons. How are 21st Century Christ-followers in congregations responding to the Shifts around us? We observe a variety of responses, some more optimistic, proactive, Christ-focused, and healthy than others. SHIFT describes three major movements congregations are making which lead to life and missional progress, by shifting from:

  • Membership Culture to Discipleship Culture
  • Attractional Church to Missional Church
  • Consumer Church to Covenant Church

The SHIFT Learning Experience is being offered in the Columbia District for pastors, staff, church council chairs, evangelism chairs, lay leaders OR any other leader who wants to learn about doing church differently in a shifting culture. More info on SHIFT can be found here. See below for info and registration.

Nomination Committee Training

“Making Disciples God Can Use”

Jesus knew how to recruit leaders to carry out his mission: “Come follow me and I will make you fishers of men” (Mark 1:17). Jesus also knew how to deploy his leaders, “He called the twelve and began to send them out two by two and he gave them authority…” and he affirmed them, “You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church” (Matthew 16:1). If your church is interested in growing in making disciples like Jesus did, join us for the upcoming training for your Leadership Development & Nomination Committee.

This training is for Pastors & the Nominations Committee members and it will guide the Committee on how to reach the laity. They will learn how to identify, develop, deploy, evaluate and monitor members who can carry out the congregational ministries that fulfill the mission of the church. The program includes a time of Prayer & Discernment led by Rev. Larry Hays, as well as workshops led by Rev. Joseph James and Rev. Jeffrey Salley.
