Close to 80 people of all ages, nations and races joined together on April 17th at Lexington UMC for a Celebration of Diversity. From toddlers to confirmation students to older adults, we were one Body, united by “one Lord, one faith, one baptism.” The Methodist Student Network helped us praise God in global music. Wesley UMC Interpretive Movement Praise Team showed us the rainbow of humanity, in song and movement. Rev. Michael Hood prayed in Spanish, while Rev. Elizabeth Murray interpreted. A panel, facilitated by Rev. Tiffany Knowlin and Dr. Doug Markham, discussed Acts 10:34-35, “God shows no partiality.” Rev. Mary Johnson (College Place UMC), Rev. Tom Wall (USC, MSN) and Ashleigh Brooker (Francis Burns UMC) each interpreted the scripture and applied it to life. The District Racial Reconciliation and Diversity Team looks forward to more opportunities in the future to raise awareness about our common bond in Christ, that transcends all differences.
